KPV is a tripeptide with the sequence Lys-Pro-Val, corresponding to the three C-terminal residues (11–13) of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). It has a molecular weight of approximately 342 Da, making it one of the smallest compounds in the Megalab range. Because it lacks the residues responsible for melanocortin receptor binding, KPV has been studied as a means of separating certain activities of the parent hormone from its pigmentation effects.
KPV appears in the literature primarily in models of inflammation. Published work includes mouse models of colitis, cell-culture studies of NF-κB signalling in epithelial and immune cells, and investigations of its transport across intestinal epithelium via the peptide transporter PepT1. Its very short sequence has also made it a useful subject for studies of peptide stability and delivery. Megalab supplies KPV as a laboratory reagent only.
Each vial contains 10mg of KPV as a lyophilised powder. Purity is verified by HPLC at ≥99% on every batch. The batch record on this page identifies the current lot where published, and a Certificate of Analysis is available on request.
Given its low molecular weight, 10mg of KPV represents a comparatively large molar quantity (roughly 29 µmol). Researchers preparing molar stock solutions should account for this when selecting diluent volumes; the peptide calculator on this site returns mass concentration, which can be converted using the molecular weight above.
Store unopened vials at −20°C, protected from light. Bring to room temperature before opening. KPV dissolves readily; add bacteriostatic water down the vial wall and swirl gently. Store reconstituted solution at 2–8°C and use within 30 days.
Supplied for laboratory research use only.
KPV is the C-terminal tripeptide of α-MSH, residues 11 to 13. It retains part of the parent hormone’s sequence but not the region responsible for melanocortin receptor binding.
Molar quantity depends on molecular weight. At roughly 342 Da, 10mg of KPV is about 29 µmol, several times the molar amount in 10mg of a 2,000 Da peptide.
Every batch is released at ≥99% purity by HPLC, with the current lot shown in the batch record and a full Certificate of Analysis available on request.
