Research Overview

What Cagrilintide is

Cagrilintide is a synthetic, long-acting analogue of amylin, the 37-residue peptide hormone co-secreted with insulin by pancreatic beta cells. The analogue incorporates a lipid side chain that enables reversible binding to albumin, which extends its residence time compared with native amylin. It was developed by Novo Nordisk and is among the newer compounds in the peptide research landscape.

Research background

Cagrilintide has been characterised in preclinical models and in clinical trials, both as a single agent and in combination with the GLP-1 analogue semaglutide under the investigational name CagriSema. The published literature focuses on amylin receptor pharmacology, receptor selectivity and the compound’s pharmacokinetic profile. Megalab supplies cagrilintide for in-vitro investigation only; it is not an approved medicine.

Specification

Each vial contains 10mg of cagrilintide as a lyophilised powder. Purity is verified by HPLC at ≥99% for every batch. Lot details appear in the batch record on this page where published, and a Certificate of Analysis can be supplied on request.

Handling and storage

Store at −20°C, protected from light, until required. Allow the vial to equilibrate to room temperature before opening. Because lipidated peptides can be slower to dissolve than short linear sequences, add bacteriostatic water slowly down the vial wall and allow the powder to hydrate before swirling. Store the reconstituted solution at 2–8°C and use within 30 days.

Supplied for laboratory research use only.

Reconstitution & storage

Diluent
Bacteriostatic water, added slowly down the inside wall of the vial; swirl, do not shake.
Lyophilised
Store at −20°C, away from light and moisture.
Reconstituted
Refrigerate at 2–8°C.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes cagrilintide long-acting compared with native amylin?

A fatty-acid side chain attached to the peptide binds reversibly to serum albumin, which slows clearance. Native amylin lacks this modification and has a much shorter half-life.

Why does cagrilintide take longer to dissolve?

The lipid side chain increases the compound’s hydrophobicity. Add diluent slowly, allow the powder to wet fully, and swirl gently rather than shaking to avoid foaming.

What purity and documentation are supplied?

Every batch is released at ≥99% purity by HPLC. The batch record on this page shows the current lot, and a full Certificate of Analysis is available on request.
