Research Overview
What Epitalon is
Epitalon (also written Epithalon or Epithalone) is a synthetic tetrapeptide with the sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly and a molecular weight of approximately 390 Da. It was developed in Russia by the group of Vladimir Khavinson as a defined synthetic counterpart to epithalamin, a polypeptide extract of the pineal gland that had been studied there since the 1980s. Its very short length and simple composition make it one of the most tractable peptides for in-vitro work.
Research background
The published research on Epitalon originates largely from the St Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology and covers telomerase activity in cultured human cells, circadian regulation in animal models and various endpoints in ageing research. Much of this literature is older and has not been widely replicated outside its originating group, a point researchers should weigh when designing protocols. Handling and storage
Store unopened vials at −20°C, protected from light. Bring to room temperature before opening. Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water added down the inside of the vial, swirling gently. Store at 2–8°C after reconstitution and use within 30 days.
