Thymulin is a naturally occurring nonapeptide with the sequence pGlu-Ala-Lys-Ser-Gln-Gly-Gly-Ser-Asn and a molecular weight of approximately 858 Da. It was first characterised in the 1970s by Jean-François Bach and colleagues in Paris, who named it facteur thymique sérique (FTS), serum thymic factor. It is produced by thymic epithelial cells and is unusual among short peptides in requiring a zinc ion for biological activity; the zinc-bound and zinc-free forms are distinct.
Thymulin’s literature spans immunology and neuroendocrinology. Published work examines its role in T-cell differentiation in cell culture, its behaviour in animal models of inflammation, and the reciprocal relationship between the thymus and the pituitary in which thymulin has been studied as a signalling intermediate. Its zinc dependence has also made it a subject of metallopeptide research. Megalab supplies Thymulin as a research reagent only; a ten-vial bundle is also available.
Each vial contains 10mg of Thymulin as a lyophilised powder. Purity is verified by HPLC at ≥99% on every batch. The batch record on this page identifies the current lot where published, and a Certificate of Analysis is available on request.
Thymulin is supplied as the peptide; researchers requiring the zinc-bound form should prepare it according to their protocol, as the metal is not included in the vial. The N-terminal pyroglutamate is stable and does not require protection from oxidation.
Store unopened vials at −20°C, protected from light. Bring to room temperature before opening. Thymulin dissolves readily; add bacteriostatic water down the vial wall and swirl gently. Store reconstituted solution at 2–8°C and use within 30 days.
Supplied for laboratory research use only.
Thymulin’s biological activity in published assays depends on a bound zinc ion. The peptide is supplied without zinc, so protocols requiring the active form add it during preparation.
Facteur thymique sérique, the original French name meaning serum thymic factor, given by the Bach group when the peptide was characterised.
Yes. The Thymulin 10 Vial Bundle provides the same product at a reduced per-vial cost.
