Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide with the sequence Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro and a molecular weight of approximately 751 Da. It is derived from tuftsin, the naturally occurring tetrapeptide Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg found in the Fc region of immunoglobulin G, extended with a Pro-Gly-Pro tripeptide at the C-terminus to improve metabolic stability. Selank was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The published research on Selank comes principally from Russian institutions and covers rodent behavioural models, gene-expression profiling in brain tissue, and studies of its interaction with GABAergic signalling and with enkephalin-degrading enzymes. It is often studied alongside Semax, a related heptapeptide from the same research tradition that shares the Pro-Gly-Pro tail. Much of the primary literature is published in Russian-language journals, which researchers should bear in mind when reviewing the evidence base. Megalab supplies Selank as a research reagent only.
Each vial contains 10mg of Selank as a lyophilised powder. Purity is verified by HPLC at ≥99% on every batch. Lot details appear in the batch record on this page where published, and a Certificate of Analysis is available on request.
Store unopened vials at −20°C, protected from light. Bring to room temperature before opening. Selank is a short, hydrophilic peptide and dissolves readily; add bacteriostatic water down the vial wall and swirl gently. Store reconstituted solution at 2–8°C and use within 30 days.
Supplied for laboratory research use only.
Tuftsin is a natural tetrapeptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg) derived from immunoglobulin G. Selank is tuftsin extended by Pro-Gly-Pro at the C-terminus, a modification intended to slow enzymatic breakdown.
Both are Russian-developed heptapeptides ending in Pro-Gly-Pro, but their N-terminal segments come from different parent molecules: tuftsin for Selank, ACTH(4-7) for Semax.
Every batch is released at ≥99% purity by HPLC, with the current lot in the batch record and a full Certificate of Analysis available on request.
