Research Overview

What NAD+ is

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is a coenzyme present in every living cell, built from two nucleotides joined through their phosphate groups, one carrying an adenine base and the other nicotinamide. Its molecular weight is approximately 663 Da. It is not a peptide; it is included in the Megalab range as a companion reagent for the mitochondrial and metabolic research areas in which many of our peptides are studied.

Research background

NAD+ and its reduced form NADH are the principal electron carriers in cellular metabolism, cycling through glycolysis, the citric-acid cycle and the electron transport chain. NAD+ is also the substrate for sirtuins, PARP enzymes and CD38, which has made it a central subject in ageing and metabolic research over the past two decades. In the laboratory it is used as an enzymatic cofactor in assay systems, as a substrate in sirtuin and PARP activity assays, and as a reagent in cell-culture supplementation studies. Megalab supplies NAD+ for in-vitro research only.

Specification

Each vial contains 500mg of NAD+ as a lyophilised powder, verified at ≥99% purity by HPLC. The larger fill relative to the peptide range reflects the millimolar working concentrations typical of cofactor and assay applications. The batch record on this page identifies the current lot where published; a Certificate of Analysis is available on request.

Handling and storage

Store the sealed vial at −20°C, protected from light and moisture; NAD+ is hygroscopic and degrades in humid conditions. Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening to prevent condensation. Dissolve in water or the buffer required by the protocol. NAD+ in solution is unstable at neutral-to-alkaline pH and at room temperature; prepare working solutions fresh or freeze aliquots at −20°C.

Supplied for laboratory research use only.

Reconstitution & storage

Diluent
Bacteriostatic water, added slowly down the inside wall of the vial; swirl, do not shake.
Lyophilised
Store at −20°C, away from light and moisture.
Reconstituted
Refrigerate at 2–8°C.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is NAD+ a peptide?

No. It is a dinucleotide coenzyme. It is listed under laboratory consumables in the Megalab range as a companion reagent for metabolic research.

Why is the vial 500mg?

Cofactor and enzyme-assay applications use NAD+ at far higher concentrations than research peptides, so a 500mg fill matches typical laboratory requirements.

How stable is NAD+ in solution?

Poorly stable at room temperature and at neutral or alkaline pH. Prepare solutions fresh, keep them cold, or freeze aliquots at −20°C for later use.
