Research Overview

What bacteriostatic water is

Bacteriostatic water is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. The benzyl alcohol inhibits bacterial growth in the vial after the seal has been punctured, which allows a single 10ml vial to be drawn from repeatedly over a period of weeks. This distinguishes it from sterile water for injection, which contains no preservative and should be treated as single-use once opened.

Why it is used for peptide reconstitution

Lyophilised peptides are supplied as dry powder and must be dissolved before use. Because most protocols draw from a reconstituted vial multiple times over several weeks, a diluent that resists contamination between draws is essential. Bacteriostatic water is the standard choice for this purpose across research supply and is the diluent assumed by the peptide calculator on this site. It is compatible with every peptide in the Megalab range.

Specification

One 10ml sealed multi-use vial of bacteriostatic water, 0.9% benzyl alcohol. Sufficient to reconstitute several peptide vials at typical volumes of 1–3ml each.

Complimentary with five peptides

Orders containing any five single peptide vials receive one vial of bacteriostatic water at no charge, added automatically at checkout.

Handling and storage

Store at room temperature, away from direct light. Do not freeze. Once the seal has been punctured, use within 28 days and discard any remainder.

Supplied for laboratory research use only.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between bacteriostatic and sterile water?

Bacteriostatic water contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which inhibits bacterial growth and allows multiple draws from one vial. Sterile water has no preservative and should not be reused after opening.

How many peptide vials will one 10ml vial reconstitute?

Typical reconstitution volumes are 1 to 3ml per peptide vial, so one 10ml vial covers roughly three to ten peptide vials depending on the concentrations chosen.

How do I get it free?

Add any five single peptide vials to your order and one vial of bacteriostatic water is included automatically at no charge.
